TNV Inspection Division

A transformer that fails in service, or a cable batch that doesn’t meet the specified rating, doesn’t just cost money to replace — it can take down a project schedule or a live power connection. Electrical equipment is one of the few product categories where a defect can stay invisible right up until the moment it fails under load.

TNV Inspection Division provides UAF-accredited third party inspection services for electrical equipment across India, under ISO/IEC 17020:2012 (Accreditation No. 5241222IB04). As a Type A inspection body, we hold no commercial stake in the manufacturer, EPC contractor, or buyer. Our inspectors verify materials, factory testing, and workmanship against the applicable technical standards.

We work with power utilities, EPC contractors, solar developers, and procurement teams sourcing electrical equipment from Indian manufacturers.

What is Electrical Equipment Inspection?

Electrical equipment inspection is the independent verification of materials, manufacturing quality, and factory test results for transformers, switchgear, cables, and power equipment against applicable technical codes and buyer specifications.

Because electrical equipment failures are often invisible until the equipment is energised or put under load, inspection typically covers:

  • Material and design verification : confirming core, winding, insulation, and conductor materials meet specified grades and drawings
  • Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) witnessing : independently witnessing routine and type tests such as insulation resistance, dielectric strength, and temperature rise tests
  • Visual and dimensional inspection : checking fabrication quality, fittings, and nameplate details against the purchase order
  • Cable testing inspection : verifying conductor sizing, insulation thickness, and routine electrical tests on cable batches
  • Solar equipment inspection : checking PV module ratings, inverter specifications, and mounting hardware against the technical specification
  • Pre-dispatch inspection : a final check before equipment leaves the factory, confirming it matches what was ordered and tested

Why Electrical Equipment Inspection Is Important in India

  1. India’s Power Sector Expansion Is Driving Demand As transmission and distribution networks expand and renewable capacity — particularly solar — grows rapidly, the volume of transformers, cables, and power equipment moving through India’s supply chain has increased substantially. Independent inspection capacity needs to scale with it.
  2. BEE and BIS Standards Set the Baseline, But Verification Still Matters The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) sets star-rating and efficiency requirements for equipment such as transformers, while BIS and IEC standards govern construction and testing. Meeting a standard on paper and having equipment independently verified against that standard before acceptance are two different things.
  3. A Field Failure Is Far More Expensive Than a Factory Reject A transformer or switchgear panel that fails after installation can mean a project delay, a safety incident, or an unplanned outage. Catching a manufacturing defect at the factory, before dispatch, is dramatically cheaper and safer than dealing with a failure once equipment is energised.
  4. Buyers and Utilities Need a Documented, Independent Record Utilities, EPC contractors, and solar developers procuring from multiple manufacturers need a consistent, independent basis for accepting or rejecting equipment — something a manufacturer’s own test certificate cannot provide with the same credibility.

TNV's Electrical Equipment Inspection Services

  1. Transformer Inspection Inspection of power and distribution transformers, covering material verification, core and winding checks, and witnessing of routine and type tests before dispatch.
  2. Switchgear and Control Panel Inspection Verification of switchgear and control panel fabrication, wiring, and functional testing against the buyer’s specification and applicable IS/IEC standards.
  3. Cable Inspection Inspection of power and control cable batches, including conductor sizing, insulation thickness, and routine electrical test verification.
  4. Solar Equipment Inspection Inspection of solar PV modules, inverters, and mounting structures at the factory and, where required, at the installation site.
  5. Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) Witnessing Independent witnessing of insulation resistance, dielectric strength, temperature rise, and other routine and type tests as specified in the purchase order.
  6. Pre-Dispatch Inspection A final independent check confirming equipment matches the purchase order and test results before it leaves the manufacturer’s facility.

Our Electrical Equipment Inspection Coverage

TNV provides electrical equipment inspection services across India’s major electrical manufacturing hubs, with strong active coverage in:

  • Gujarat : transformer, cable, and switchgear manufacturing clusters across Ahmedabad, Vadodara, and Rajkot
  • Tamil Nadu : electrical equipment and power sector manufacturing around Chennai
  • Uttar Pradesh: electrical equipment manufacturing across Noida and the NCR belt, supported by our Lucknow head office

For projects in other states, contact us directly — we mobilise inspectors across India for electrical equipment assignments.

Our Electrical Equipment Inspection Process

  • Step 1 — Scope and Standards Confirmation You share the purchase order, technical specification, and applicable IS, IEC, or BEE requirements. We confirm scope and provide a cost estimate.
  • Step 2 — Inspector Assignment We assign inspectors experienced in the specific equipment category — transformers, switchgear, cables, or solar equipment.
  • Step 3 — Factory Inspection and Test Witnessing Our inspectors visit the manufacturer’s facility to verify materials, workmanship, and witness routine and type tests against the specification.
  • Step 4 — Inspection and Test Reports You receive a detailed report covering findings, test results, photographic evidence, and any non-conformances identified.
  • Step 5 — Follow-Up and Closeout Verification Where non-conformances are found, we support corrective action verification and re-inspection before dispatch is cleared.

Frequently Asked Questions(FAQ)

Why is third party inspection needed for electrical equipment in India?

Electrical equipment such as transformers, switchgear, and cables carries safety and performance risk that is hard to detect visually once installed. Independent inspection verifies materials, factory testing, and workmanship against BEE, IEC, and IS standards before equipment is accepted or commissioned.

How long do I get support?

Even the all-powerful Pointing has no control about the blind texts it is an almost unorthographic life One day however a small line

What electrical equipment does TNV inspect?

TNV inspects power and distribution transformers, switchgear and control panels, power and control cables, solar PV modules and inverters, and related equipment against IS, IEC, and BEE standards, including factory acceptance testing and pre-dispatch inspection.

Does TNV inspect solar power equipment?

Yes. TNV inspects solar PV modules, inverters, mounting structures, and balance-of-system components at the factory and, where required, at the installation site, verifying conformance to specification before commissioning.

How much does electrical equipment inspection cost in India?

Cost depends on the type of equipment, scope of testing required, and inspection location. Contact us at info@tnvib.com for a specific quote — initial enquiries are free.

Is TNV's inspection recognised for BEE or IS compliance purposes?

TNV is a UAF-accredited Type A inspection body under ISO/IEC 17020:2012, and our reports document independent, standards-based inspection findings that buyers and project owners can use to demonstrate due diligence against BEE, IEC, and IS requirements. Buyers should confirm specific documentation requirements with the relevant regulator or their compliance advisor for their particular equipment.
