TNV Inspection Division

The manufacturing and export economy in India is growing faster than ever. With that speed comes a serious problem — how do buyers, project owners, and government agencies know that what they ordered is actually what they are getting?

That is what third party inspection solves.

TNV Inspection Division is India’s UAF-accredited third party inspection body, operating under ISO/IEC 17020:2012 (Accreditation No. 5241222IB04). We are a division of TNV Global Limited — a company with roots in the ISO and quality assurance industry since 2011 — and India’s first inspection body to receive UAF accreditation. We are a Type A inspection body, which means we have no commercial ties to any manufacturer, supplier, or buyer. Our only job is to tell you exactly what is there, exactly as it is.

We inspect across 36+ industry sectors, in every major Indian state, for manufacturers, exporters, importers, EPC contractors, government agencies, and procurement teams.

What is Third Party Inspection?

Third party inspection (TPI) is an independent assessment of a product, process, system, or facility by an organisation that has no stake in the outcome. No financial relationship with the manufacturer. No pressure from the buyer. Just a qualified inspector, a clear standard to inspect against, and an honest report.

The “third party” in the name matters. The first party is the manufacturer or supplier. The second party is the buyer or client. The third party — the inspection body — sits outside that relationship entirely. That independence is the whole point.

Under ISO/IEC 17020:2012, inspection bodies are classified into three types:

  • Type A — Fully independent of both manufacturer and buyer. Highest level of impartiality. This is what TNV is.
  • Type B — Part of a larger organisation that also manufactures or supplies. Operates as a separate unit.
  • Type C — Provides inspection services to clients but may also be involved in the design or supply chain.

For any inspection that involves regulatory compliance, government projects, or export certification, Type A is what you need.

Why Third Party Inspection is Important for Indian Businesses

India’s industrial and export landscape has changed significantly over the last decade. Third party inspection is no longer optional for most serious businesses. Here is why:

Regulatory Requirements Are Now Mandatory in Many Sectors

Several of India’s most active industries now require third party inspection by law or by regulatory mandate:

  • Oil and Gas: The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) mandates third party inspection for pipelines, CGD networks, LPG storage facilities, and city gas distribution infrastructure under its ERDMP and technical codes.
  • Food and Agriculture: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) requires third party audits and inspections for food business operators, especially for export-eligible units.
  • Railways: All suppliers to Indian Railways must meet RDSO specifications. Stage-wise inspection against RDSO standards is a standard requirement for wagon components, rails, wheels, axles, and assemblies.
  • Construction and Infrastructure: Under RERA, builders and developers face increasing accountability for construction quality. Government projects under CPWD, NHAI, and Jal Jeevan Mission specify third party inspection in their tender conditions.
  • Government Procurement: The General Financial Rules (GFR 2017) increasingly include third party inspection requirements for procurement above specified values.

Export Quality Expectations Have Risen

International buyers sourcing from India — whether garments from Tirupur, chemicals from Gujarat, engineering goods from Pune, or food products from UP — now routinely insist on pre-shipment inspection by an accredited body before they release payment. A missed inspection or a failed PSI is not just a shipment problem; it can end a buyer relationship.

Make in India Has Raised the Stakes

As Indian manufacturers compete for contracts they previously lost to suppliers in China, Vietnam, and Bangladesh, consistent quality verification has become a competitive tool, not just a compliance step.

Our Third Party Inspection Services in India

TNV provides end-to-end inspection services across the full production and supply chain lifecycle. Every service is delivered by qualified inspectors against documented standards, and every inspection results in a structured report with findings, photographs, and non-conformance details where applicable.

  1. Pre-Production Inspection (PPI):

Conducted before manufacturing begins. We verify raw materials, supplier readiness, machinery condition, and production setup to catch problems before they become expensive.

  2. In-Process Inspection (IPI):

Conducted during manufacturing at agreed production milestones. We monitor processes in real time, verify dimensional accuracy, check material conformance, and flag deviations before they compound.

  3. Final Inspection (FI):

Conducted on finished goods before they leave the factory. We check against your purchase order, specifications, and applicable standards. AQL sampling, functional checks, visual inspection, and packaging verification.

  4. Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI):

Conducted on completed goods, typically when 80–100% of the order is packed and ready. We issue a pre-shipment inspection certificate confirming the shipment meets agreed quality and quantity requirements. This is the most requested service for Indian exporters and their overseas buyers.

  5. Container Loading Inspection (CLI):

Supervision of the actual loading process. We verify that the correct goods are loaded, packaging is intact, quantities match shipping documents, and containers are sealed properly.

  6. Vendor and Supplier Assessment:

A structured evaluation of a supplier’s manufacturing capability, quality systems, workforce, equipment, and track record before you commit to an order. Essential for new vendor onboarding and supply chain risk management.

  7. Factory Audit:

A detailed on-site audit of a manufacturing facility covering production capacity, process controls, quality management, safety compliance, and regulatory adherence.

  8. In-Service and Stage-wise Inspection:

For long-duration projects such as infrastructure, pipelines, construction, and power plants, we provide stage-wise inspections at defined milestones throughout the project lifecycle, not just at the end.

  9. NDT and Specialised Inspection:

Non-destructive testing including ultrasonic testing, radiographic testing, magnetic particle inspection, and dye penetrant testing. We also provide hydrostatic testing, dimensional checks, and calibration verification for specialised equipment.

  10. Documentation and Regulatory Review:

Review of technical documentation, drawings, specifications, quality plans, test certificates, and regulatory filings to verify completeness and accuracy before approvals or dispatch.

Our Inspection Process in India

Every inspection engagement follows a structured six-step process:

Step 1 — Inquiry and Scope Definition You contact us with your inspection requirement — product type, factory location, applicable standards, timeline, and any specific buyer requirements. We confirm feasibility and provide a cost estimate.

Step 2 — Inspection Planning We assign a qualified inspector, review your purchase order and technical specifications, and agree on the inspection criteria, AQL levels, sampling method, and reporting format before the inspection date.

Step 3 — On-Site Inspection Our inspector visits the factory or site on the agreed date. The inspection covers all agreed parameters — visual checks, dimensional measurements, functional tests, quantity verification, packaging review, or process audits depending on the scope.

Step 4 — Inspection Report You receive a detailed inspection report within 24 hours of inspection completion. The report includes findings for each inspection criterion, photographic evidence, quantity confirmed, non-conformances identified, and overall pass or fail determination.

Step 5 — Follow-Up and Corrective Action Verification If non-conformances are found, we support you in defining corrective actions and, if required, conduct a follow-up inspection to verify that issues have been resolved before shipment.

Step 6 — Certificate Issuance For pre-shipment inspections and other applicable services, we issue an accredited inspection certificate. If you are pursuing certification from a third-party certification body, our inspection report and certificate can be submitted as part of that process.
